Purpose built to conquer the American sourced Mustangs and Camaros that had dominated the Australian Touring Car Championship in the late 1960's, Norm Beechey's mighty Holden HT GST 350 Monaro was a banner head car in Holden's history. This Moaro was all Australian: its locally developed V8 engine propelling the distinctive red and yellow coupe to the 1970 championship becoming the first Holden, and indeed the first locally produced car to win the title. The loosening of technical regulations and freedoms in the important areas of suspension, brakes, body modifications and weight distribution for the 1970 season, allowed this car to be built in a way that it could beat the Mustangs of Allan Moffat, Bob Jane and Ian Geoghegan.
Four podium finishes from the seven rounds gave Beechey his second ATCC title, a win he considered to be his greatest racing achievement. This car's success paved the way for all championship winning Holdens that followed in his wheel tracks.
