It's hard to believe that a body style was created solely to win races in Australia, but the XC Coupe was exactly that. An update of the XA/XB the 'Hardtop' Falcon was designed to fit wide-as-possible rubber, and also carried the 351 cubic-inch V8 from the legendary Phase III GT-HO. While Moffat had claimed the championship in the XB GT Hardtop, by Bathurst the Moffat Dealer Team was at the wheel of the XC GS500 coupe. Despite missing out on pole position and qualifying third, with teammate Bond qualifying second, Moffat pulled the rank in the closing laps to line-up a form finish for the XC Falcon's Number 1 and Number 2. While the XC was an evolution of Ford's dominant 1970s Falcon V8s, it will be forever remembered for the orchestrated Moffat-Bond 1-2 finish of 1977.
