For the 1967 season, Ford developed several innovations, including the MkIV, which was based on the guidelines seen on the J-car. After a victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring with McLaren / Andretti, Ford sent an example of the MkIV, as well as a MkIIA, to the Le Mans tests. Even if the drivers did not try too hard not to reveal the real potential of their vehicles, it was clear that Ford had exceptional material. The race resulted in a battle between Ford and Ferrari, and in the end the MkIV of Gurney and Foyt prevailed, thus repeating the success achieved by Ford in 1966. The MkIV was never seen again in the race and the season was completed by the various MkIIs.
